These manuals were made to assure customers could install their products properly and safely with minimal assistance and risk. To ensure customers were able to understand what they needed to, the manuals had to be designed using a hierarchy of information to guide the reader's attention toward the most critical information, appropriate line length, churning, tracking, and paragraph spacing to optimize reading speed and ensure the reader encounters minimal resistance while trying to understand the material as well as illustrations that accurately depicted the products, parts or concepts needed.
